So apparently this asshole at work has some beef with me… for reasons I don’t even know. It has especially gotten worse since rumors about me permanently joining this group have been circling around.
I was repeating this assay that kept failing, which started to raise my own questions on the reliability of the instruments here. But after some troubleshooting, it turns out it was some simple chemistry that was interfering with my assay…previously unseen to any of us…. So…. after repeating the assay without this component, the entire procedure worked beautifully. After which, I reported these successful results to this asshole senior student and his response was:
“Oh, nice. Well… at least we know now that you’re not an idiot.”
What the flipping fuck is that statement about…
This same student randomly began arguing to me about how their [‘their’ as in the senior students in this group] opinion has no power/influence with the boss as to who they can accept into the group since the boss himself is the one who decides.
“All [the boss] sees are the results you present to him, cause that’s all that matters to him. He doesn’t really take our opinions of students who work here too seriously.”
My thoughts: “why the fuck are you telling me this… are you trying to tell me I’m not what you want? and… if he really doesn’t care…is it even worth joining?”
A different student, who has been super chill and cool this whole quarter, just gave me a passive aggressive announcement about the way “I” used an instrument last week. Apparently it’s my fault that this equipment broke last Friday because of some ‘low-quality buffer’ I used the previous week.
“Ever since somebody, used it with some weird phosphate buffer, it’s been crapping out.”
BULLSHIT. I’ve worked with instruments like this for almost 4 years now. I know how it operates, and I know the preliminary steps required to use it properly. Furthermore…I was fucking supervised by this other asshole student the entire time…as if it already wasn’t an insult to my intelligence that I knew how to use it based on my background experience…lecturing me ‘n shit. Not only does that show he doesn’t trust me after an entire quarter…but he’s clearly the one that is creating bullshit reasons for why I’m responsible.
Man… f*ck you, asshole…f*ck you and your beer-bellied put-down opinions of other people trying to be successful. Just cause your ass hasn’t graduated after 7 years doesn’t mean you need inhibit others. Since the boss has proven himself, pardon me, as lousy mentor this quarter (even though he has all my respect with the work he does)… I know for sure that I don’t want to stay here. It’s not like my experiments were promising anyway.
